Kopfrechnen Trainer: a mental maths app that speaks the problems
Kopfrechnen Trainer is a mental maths app for primary school children aged about 7 to 10 (school years 2 to 4 in Germany). Each problem is spoken aloud and is not shown as digits on the screen while the child works it out. The child listens, keeps the numbers in mind, calculates in their head and types only the answer. This mirrors how teachers dictate mental arithmetic in class.
Important: the app is in German. Problems, menus and help texts are German. It is made for children who learn maths in German: families in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, German schools abroad and bilingual families. It is not an English-language maths app.

Why spoken problems?
Most maths apps show the problem on the screen. A child can then read the digits, look back and work through them almost as on paper. Mental arithmetic in school is different: the teacher says the problem, the child sees nothing and must hold the numbers in working memory. Kopfrechnen Trainer practises exactly that. Who made it
The app was built in Bavaria by two primary school brothers and their parents, published by Drinos. There is no company server: the app works fully on the device.
When another app is the better choice
If you want a free app covering many subjects, ANTON is a common choice in German-speaking schools. If your child's class uses the textbook “Das Zahlenbuch”, Klett's Blitzrechnen app matches it. If your child learns maths in English, choose an English-language app. Kopfrechnen Trainer does one thing: German mental arithmetic by ear.
